Here's a shout out to all the guys of Taiwan BJJ who competed in the recent spate of tournaments around Asia, including the Thailand Open 2010, Rickson Gracie Cup, CBJJE Asian Championship, and the Tokyo Invitational.
Jon, Isaac, Demitri, Vova, James, Rocky, Jean Pierre, and Makoto all went to shake things up at the Thailand Open 2010 held October 23-24, 2010 in Bangkok, Thailand. Jon “Shred'em” Jones was the king of bling, taking home a total of five medals. On the first day he took gold in the adult gi 90 kg division and silver in the masters gi open division. Jon also tore into the competition the following day in the no-gi fights grabbing a silver medal in the adult 90 kg elite division and bronze in the open elite division. Not content with that, he also snagged a bronze medal in the masters open elite division.
Vova came away with some heavy hardware at the Thailand Open as well, nabbing a silver in the 90 kg gi blue belt division, and a gold each for the blue belt open gi and intermediate no gi competitions. Demitri Telfair played out some tough battles for silver in the 80 kg blue belt gi division. Ricky Morris nabbed two golds, one each for the 70 kg gi and no-gi white belt divisions.
Coach Makoto Ogasawara walked away with a gold medal in the 80 kg gi black belt division and a silver and bronze, respectively, in the 80 kg and open divisions of the no-gi elite competitions.
On November 20, 2010, Makoto, Isaac, Kai, and Justin competed in the Rickson Gracie Cup in Tokyo, Japan. The guys then headed to Osaka to compete in the CBJJE Asian Championship on November 21 with Isaac taking silver in the feather weight division and Makoto grabbing gold in the black belt medium weight division.
Makoto also competed in the Tokyo International Open on November 28 where he got gold in the black belt middle weight category.
